What you can expect for homework this year:
Children in the third grade should be working on his or her homework for approximately 30-40 minutes (10 minutes multiplied by grade level). If your child is struggling with his or her homework for more than 60 minutes, please write me a short note in his or her agenda (homework notebook) or on the assignment. Your child will receive credit as long as he or she tried to complete the assignment and a note is presented.
Homework: Each night (Monday-Thursday) the students will have mathematics and reading homework.
Occasionally, a study guide in the area of social studies will be sent home for review before a test.
READ, READ, READ
Children are expected to read for 15 minutes each night. Daily reading helps a child expand his or her vocabulary which improves a child’s ability to: express his or herself through written and oral expression and comprehend when reading and listening. Children also benefit from listening to a fluent reader. Example: Child follows along as an adult reads or while listening to a book on tape. The more a child hears and sees unknown words those words become a permanent part of his or her working memory.
